Silence & Light Companion Guide

When I first wrote Silence and Light, I had no idea how deeply it would resonate—not just with parents of children with disabilities, but with anyone who has ever had to navigate the unexpected. Over time, I heard from readers who said, “I wish I had space to process everything I felt while reading,” or “I want to read this with others, but I’m not sure where to start.”

So in the 2025 updated edition (coming soon), I’ve included something special—a Companion Guide. It's filled with questions and prompts to help you reflect, journal, or discuss as you move through the book.

Some questions are universal—about loss, identity, resilience, and finding your voice. Others are specific to parents navigating systems and raising children with unique needs. You can use this guide on your own, in a group, or even in a therapeutic setting.

An abbreviated version of the guide is included in the back of the 2025 book (coming soon) for quick reference. If you’d like the full printable version—with journaling space, group discussion suggestions, and chapter-by-chapter prompts—you can soon download it for free here. Check back soon!

You don’t have to answer every question. You don’t have to go in order. Just let it meet you where you are. Use what serves you, and skip what doesn’t.

More than anything, I hope this guide reminds you that you are not alone. You are not “too much” for needing space to feel. You are not “behind” for still figuring things out. You are human. And your story—just like mine—is worthy of reflection, healing, and light.

With love,
Lanya
